Tech Corps will bring America's technical talent to the global front lines to apply AI to real-world challenges
WASHINGTON - The Peace Corps today announced Tech Corps, a new initiative to recruit, train and deploy skilled Americans to support the adoption of artificial intelligence in Peace Corps host countries participating in the American AI Exports Program. The Tech Corps was first unveiled in a speech by White House Office of Science and Technology Director Michael Kratsios at the India AI Impact Summit 2026.
Tech Corps volunteers will work with host country community partners to harness American AI to solve real-world grassroots problems in key sectors including agriculture, education, health, and economic development.
"Since 1961, Peace Corps volunteers have been innovators, exchanging skills and knowledge with community members to help create sustainable change," said acting Peace Corps Director Richard E. Swarttz. "AI is the future, and as the undisputed world leader in AI technology, the United States, through the Tech Corps, will be at the forefront of delivering these benefits to Peace Corps partner countries."
Tech Corps volunteers will be deployed in Peace Corps countries participating in the American AI Exports Program, a whole-of-government effort announced by President Trump in July 2025 to bring the best American AI technology and its benefits to communities around the world in support of the president's agenda.
AI adoption remains the critical bottleneck in realizing AI's potential to drive economic growth and quality-of-life improvements for billions of people. "By building technical capacity, supporting AI adoption across critical uses cases, and addressing barriers to last-mile AI implementation, Tech Corps volunteers will leverage American AI to expand access to opportunity and prosperity," said Swarttz.
Tech Corps volunteers can serve overseas for 12-27-month in-person assignments or through a virtual placement. For those serving overseas, the Peace Corps provides housing, healthcare, a living stipend, and a volunteer service award upon the completion of service.
"If you are a STEM graduate or have a professional background in artificial intelligence and want to explore the world and work with partners to adopt the best of American AI for global impact, we want you to be a part of the Tech Corps initiative," Swarttz added.
