Upon arrival, the fire was approximately three acres in size and had extended to one nearby home, with landscaping damaged at a second home. Crews quickly contained the fire, preventing further spread and damage.
Due to the size of the fire, a second alarm was requested. Approximately 60 personnel responded with assistance from the Clark County Fire Department and the Bureau of Land Management.
Heavy smoke prompted the evacuation of approximately 50 residents. All evacuations have since been lifted.
During a primary search of the area, one deceased individual was located. The name and cause of death will be released by the Clark County Coroner's Office. Following protocol, the circumstances surrounding the death are under investigation by the Henderson Police Department.
The fire has been extinguished and poses no threat to the public. Crews remain on scene for cleanup and to monitor for flare-ups. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
While the City of Henderson is considered a low-risk area for wildfires, risk still exists. Areas with dense vegetation can become dangerous under certain conditions, which is why fire crews train year-round and remain ready to respond.
