LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - Commonwealth University-Lock Haven has opened a new nursing simulation lab in the East Campus Science Center, providing Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) students with an enhanced environment to develop clinical skills and prepare for careers in nursing.

The new lab, which opened in Fall 2026, features four high-fidelity mannequins capable of simulating a variety of diseases, medical conditions, and patient scenarios. The facility includes medical equipment and a simulated hospital room setting where students can practice nursing procedures, complete skill assessments, and gain experience responding to patient needs.

The mannequins offer students the opportunity to practice caring for patients across a range of situations, including childbirth, heart attacks, and pediatric care. One mannequin is specifically designed to simulate children and their unique symptoms, allowing students to develop skills in caring for patients at different stages of life.

The simulation lab is part of the overall Breiner School of Nursing at Commonwealth University-Lock Haven and supports the university's commitment to experiential learning and preparing students for the demands of the nursing profession.

"Providing students with opportunities to learn by doing is an important part of preparing them for success," said Bryson Purcell, Director of Admissions at CU - Lock Haven. "The new simulation lab gives our nursing students an opportunity to build their confidence, strengthen their clinical skills, and prepare for the situations they will encounter throughout their careers. It's another example of how Lock Haven is investing in our students and their future."

Through simulated clinical experiences, students can practice applying classroom knowledge in a controlled environment before transitioning to clinical experiences in healthcare facilities. The lab allows students to develop critical thinking, clinical judgment, and the ability to respond to patient needs while receiving instruction and feedback from faculty.

The addition of the simulation lab further strengthens the ASN program's commitment to preparing students for professional nursing practice and licensure. Lock Haven ASN graduates currently achieve a 95% or higher passing rate on the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX), demonstrating the program's continued success in preparing students for the nursing profession.

Located in the East Campus Science Center, the new facility represents an additional investment in nursing education and student success at Commonwealth University-Lock Haven. The lab will continue to expand opportunities for ASN students to develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence necessary to enter the healthcare workforce.
