HELICOPTER CRASH IN WEST KALIMANTAN, INDONESIA 16 APRIL 2026

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the Consulate of Malaysia in Pontianak, would like to confirm that one Malaysian citizen has perished following a helicopter crash in West Kalimantan, Indonesia on 16 April 2026.

According to the Indonesian authorities, the helicopter, registered as PK-CFX and operated by a local aviation company, lost contact shortly after departing from Kabupaten Melawi en route to Kabupaten Kubu Raya. The wreckage was subsequently located in a remote forested area in Desa Tapang Tingang, Kecamatan Nanga Taman, Kabupaten Sekadau. The cause of the incident remains under investigation by the relevant Indonesian authorities.

Based on information received from his employer, the victim has been identified as Mr. Patrick Kee Chuan Peng, Chief Operating Officer of KPN Plantations, who was in West Kalimantan on work-related matters at the time of the incident.

The Consulate of Malaysia in Pontianak has extended the necessary consular assistance, including coordinating with the Indonesian authorities, the employer, and the family to facilitate the repatriation of the remains to Malaysia.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs extends its deepest condolences to the family of the deceased.
