National 811 Day: One Call That Helps Keep Hawaiʻi Safe

August 11 marks National 811 Day, an annual reminder to contact 811 before starting any digging project.
Under Hawaiʻi law, professional excavators and contractors are required to notify the Hawaiʻi One Call Center (HOCC) before beginning excavation, and failure to do so may result in fines. The Hawaiʻi Public Utilities Commission oversees HOCC, which helps protect underground utility infrastructure across the state.
A single call helps prevent damage to underground utility lines that could result in service disruptions, costly repairs, serious injuries, or even fatalities.
