DEVENS, Mass. - August X, 2026 - Electric Hydrogen, manufacturer of HYPRPlant, a complete solution for industrial-scale renewable hydrogen production, announced today that Perdaman has selected Electric Hydrogen as its preferred electrolyzer vendor for Project Helios, a proposed large-scale solar and hydrogen development in Karratha, Western Australia. Project Helios is anticipated to include over 1GW of solar PV generation and produce in excess of 120 tons per day (TPD) of low-carbon hydrogen, making it one of the largest electrolysis deployments in Australia.
Project Helios will supply low-carbon hydrogen to Perdaman's Project Ceres. This AUD $6.45 billion urea facility will become Australia's largest domestic fertilizer production plant, strengthening national food security and reducing reliance on imported fertilizers.
Australia currently imports the majority of its fertilizer, making domestic, low-carbon urea production a strategic priority for the country's food and energy security. Project Helios is designed to help close that gap, using Australian solar resources and Electric Hydrogen's HYPRPlant technology to produce hydrogen at a scale and cost that makes low-carbon fertilizer commercially viable.
Electric Hydrogen has been working with Perdaman on early engineering work for the electrolyzer element of Project Helios under a pre-FEED agreement. Completion of that work has led to Perdaman's selection of Electric Hydrogen as the preferred electrolyzer vendor for the project's next stage of development.
"When we began Project Ceres, our vision was to strengthen Australia's manufacturing future. Project Helios is the next step in that journey, advancing the decarbonization of Australian industry through clean, Australian-made hydrogen," said Vikas Rambal, Perdaman's Chairman.
"Perdaman is building a state-of-the-art urea production facility on the Burrup Peninsula near Karratha. Electric Hydrogen's economically viable large scale HYPRplant electrolysis solution will enable Perdaman to address Australia's critical need for low-carbon, domestically produced fertilizer. We're excited to partner with Perdaman on this important mission" said Raffi Garabedian, CEO and Co-founder of Electric Hydrogen.
