Student Senate announces information meetings for students interested in campaigning for 2026-27 elected positions

March 13, 2026

The Student Senate at Northwest Missouri State University is inviting students to consider seeking election to its 2026-27 executive board.

Interested students must attend one information session to learn more about the organization and its election process during the week of March 23. Student Senate will host the sessions at:

  • 5 p.m. Monday, March 23
  • 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 24
  • 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 25
  • 3:30 p.m. Thursday, March 26
  • 9 a.m. Friday, March 27

All sessions will occur in The Carnahan Student Senate Chamber on the third floor of the J.W. Jones Student Union, except for the Tuesday meeting, which will occur in the Student Union Ballroom in conjunction with the full Student Senate's weekly meeting.

"Student Senate is a unique opportunity for students to make a meaningful impact on campus while developing leadership skills and building connections across the University," Student Senate President Anna Tucker said. "Whether serving as a senator or running for an executive board position, students have the chance to advocate for their peers, help shape campus initiatives and leave a lasting impact on the student experience."

Eligible candidates may begin campaigning on Monday, March 30, and voting will take place Monday, April 6, through Friday, April 10. All students eligible to vote will receive an email informing them of their representatives on the ballot.

Results will be announced during the Student Senate's April 14 meeting, and the 2026-27 executive board will be sworn in during the organization's April 21 meeting.

Student Senate is the elected, representative governing body of the Student Government Association (SGA) at Northwest. It makes decisions for the SGA and expresses views and opinions on behalf of the Northwest student body. It consists of four representatives from each class, one representative of graduate students, five representatives for off-campus students and five representatives for on-campus students.

Any student may join the Student Senate as a non-voting associate member. Senators are expected to serve on the Student Senate and University committees to serve constituents. Student Senate also provides students with numerous opportunities to get involved on campus, stay informed about important issues, and develop long lasting relationships with other student leaders and campus administrators.
