Renner Road Two-Lane Closure Underway for Water Valve Replacement
Construction work began this week on the Renner Road at Wyndham Lane Large Valve Improvement Project that involves replacing a 24-inch water valve. Work is taking place in the eastbound lanes of Renner Road just west of Wyndham Lane, with the right and center lanes closed at all times throughout the project. Work is estimated to be complete by late June, weather permitting.

The project is part of the City's ongoing efforts to maintain and upgrade water system infrastructure. Richardson's water distribution system includes approximately 300 large water valves that are 14 inches or larger, which are classified as critical infrastructure because they allow crews to control water flow and isolate sections of waterline during maintenance, repairs or emergencies. Replacing this 24-inch valve is a preventative improvement that will help maintain the reliability of the water system and support efficient future maintenance activities with fewer impacts to surrounding areas.

Clean Air Action Day is Friday; Time to Commit to a Daily Clean Air Habit
Air North Texas, a division of the North Central Texas Council of Governments, is encouraging everyone to commit to doing at least one thing to help improve air quality on Friday, June 5, the 2026 Clean Air Action Day. Better air quality poses fewer health risks to residents and ensures the continued economic success of the region. Practicing mindful air habits is especially important whenever there are Ozone Action Days, when inhaling ground-level ozone is particularly dangerous for people who have asthma or respiratory problems.

Some of Air North Texas' list of 23 clean air habits to try/practice include:

  • Carpool or vanpool
  • Use mass transit
  • Bike or walk
  • Telecommute
  • Take lunch to work or to summer activities
  • Reduce idling
  • Buy local or at places where less driving is required
  • Sign up for Air Pollution Alerts

Share how you're cleaning the air by filling out the form at the below link, and by using the hashtag #CAAD2026 on social media and tagging Air North Texas (@NCTCOGtrans).

Year-Round Disposal Options for Used/Expired Pharmaceuticals
If you missed the Richardson Police Department's Drug Take Back event last month, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has a searchable online database of local sites (click here) that accept used pharmaceuticals at their pharmacies year-round for disposal. Medications pose an environmental threat if flushed down drains and a safety threat to pets, children and others if disposed of in the trash improperly.

There are more than 20 drop-off sites listed in Richardson or within five miles of city limits, including CVS Pharmacy at 605 W. Campbell Rd., Albertsons Pharmacy at 2165 E. Buckingham Rd., and several Tom Thumb pharmacies (listed as Randalls in the database). Drop-off bins are usually located inside near the pharmacy area.

If you choose to dispose at home, the Richardson Health Department has a web page with links to federal guidelines on how to do it safely.
