CONGRESSMAN CLEO FIELDS RELEASES STATEMENT ON PASSAGE OF THE 21ST CENTURY ROAD TO HOUSING ACT

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Cleo Fields today issued the following statement regarding the passage of the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act and President Trump's refusal to sign the bipartisan legislation into law:

"Last night, the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act passed with overwhelming bipartisan support and now heads to the President's desk. As a cosponsor of this legislation, I have consistently supported it because it directly addresses the housing pressures facing working families across the 6th District.

It cuts the cost of manufactured homes, blocks corporate investors from buying up single-family homes, locks in disaster recovery housing funds for states like Louisiana, and helps low-income homeowners afford basic repairs. This is the most significant federal housing legislation in a generation, and I'm proud my vote helped move it forward.

This bill has no partisan strings attached. It passed both chambers with veto-proof margins because it works for American families. President Trump's decision to cancel the signing ceremony and hold this bill hostage over the unrelated SAVE Act, a voting restrictions bill that doesn't have the Senate votes to pass, is wrong. Families in Louisiana cannot afford to wait. I am calling on President Trump to sign this bill into law now."
