SCO Delegation visits Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region

At the invitation of the Foreign Affairs Office of the People's Government of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China, the delegation of the Secretariat of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization led by Deputy Secretary-General Batir Tursunov visited Urumqi on January 26-27, 2026 to attend the opening ceremony of the 4th Session of the 14th People's Congress of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

During the visit the delegation held talks with Xu Guixiang, Secretary of the Leading Party Members' Group of the Foreign Affairs Office of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. The parties discussed prospects for further cooperation in the cultural and humanitarian sphere including issues related to organizing joint events within the framework of commemorating the 25th anniversary of the SCO this year.

The representatives of the Secretariat visited an exhibition of achievements dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. They also toured the Urumqi Exhibition Center on the Practice and Development of the People's Congress System, the office of members of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference from the Tianshan District, and several other facilities.
