MARQUETTE, MI - A Sierra Club film chronicling a group of Detroit high school students traveling to Yosemite National Park in California in 2024 is being featured as part of the Fresh Coast Film Festival, which runs from October 16-19 in Marquette, MI. The film, titled "Detroit to Gloryland", follows eight Detroit youth as they venture to Yosemite for the first time and meet legendary Park Ranger and fellow Detroiter Shelton Johnson.
WHAT: Sierra Club's "Detroit to Gloryland" film screening is part of the Fresh Coast Film Festival. The film follows eight Detroit youth as they venture to Yosemite National Park in California for the first time and meet legendary Park Ranger and fellow Detroiter Shelton Johnson.
WHO: Several people involved in the film will be at the screenings and are available for interviews, including Garrett Dempsey, a Sierra Club staff member and program director for Detroit Outdoors, as well as a group of Detroit high school students who went on the trip and are featured in the film. The Detroit Outdoorsprogram provides training, gear rentals, and programs for youth to expand access to a variety of outdoor recreation opportunities. The program is a collaboration between the Sierra Club and Detroit Parks & Recreation.
