FIJI–CHINA TIES DEEPEN THROUGH CULTURE...

The Minister for Multi-Ethnic Affairs, Culture, Heritage, Arts and Public Enterprises, Hon. Charan Jeath Singh, reaffirmed Fiji's strong and enduring partnership with the People's Republic of China while officiating as Chief Guest at the 2026 Chinese New Year Celebration at the Civic Centre in Suva this evening.

Minister Singh said the relationship between Fiji and China is founded on mutual respect, friendship and cooperation, and continues to grow across a wide range of sectors.

"The relationship between Fiji and China is a long-standing and valued partnership founded on mutual respect, friendship and cooperation. Over the years, our two countries have worked closely across many sectors, strengthening ties not only between our governments but, more importantly, between our peoples," Minister Singh said.

He highlighted cultural and heritage cooperation as a cornerstone of the bilateral relationship, noting that support provided through the bilateral Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2014 has strengthened engagement between cultural practitioners of both countries.

"Through this partnership, China has supported Fiji's cultural sector by enabling engagement with Chinese experts and professionals, while also facilitating meaningful exchanges between Fijian artists and artisans and their Chinese counterparts," he said.

Minister Singh also recognised education as one key area of cooperation, while acknowledging the benefits of scholarships, academic exchanges and skills development initiatives for many Fijians. He also acknowledged China's significant economic strength globally and Fiji's engagement with China in trade, tourism and investment, which has contributed to economic development and job creation.

"Education has been a vital bridge between our two nations. These opportunities have helped build human capital and foster long-term people-to-people links," he added.

"Fiji is fortunate to be associated with China through partnerships in trade, tourism and investment, which have contributed meaningfully to economic development, expanded opportunities and job creation in our country," Minister Singh said.

He reaffirmed the Coalition Government's commitment to strengthening intercultural dialogue and safeguarding the cultural heritage of all communities that call Fiji home, welcoming continued collaboration between the China Cultural Centre in Fiji and the Ministry of Multi-Ethnic Affairs, Culture, Heritage and Arts.

He added that such collaboration would enrich Fiji's cultural landscape and strengthen bonds between communities and generations.
