Crosswalk and traffic signal improvements at Līhu'e Airport to begin May 26, 2026.

LĪHUʻE, Hawaiʻi - The public is advised that construction work is scheduled to begin on May 26, 2026, along the Līhuʻe Airport curbside pick-up and drop-off areas. The project will improve the airport's three existing crosswalks and traffic signals to enhance pedestrian visibility, accessibility and overall public safety.

During construction, which will be divided into six separate work phases, one of the three crosswalks will be closed at a time, allowing the public to access the other two crosswalks. The number of available traffic lanes along the curbside areas will be temporarily reduced. Motorists should expect possible traffic congestion and are encouraged to plan ahead, use caution, follow posted signs and comply with directions from airport security. The project is estimated to be completed in March of 2027.

As a friendly reminder, the curbside areas are for active passenger pick-up and drop-off only. Waiting or parking at the curb is not allowed. Drivers picking up arriving passengers should use the airport's cell phone waiting area until their party has collected all luggage, is curbside and is ready for immediate pick-up.

HDOT appreciates the public's patience and cooperation as these improvements are completed to support a safer and more efficient airport experience.
