TSA encourages Albuquerque area residents to join the agency as Transportation Security Officers at Albuquerque International Sunport

ALBUQUERQUE - The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is encouraging area residents to apply for part-time Transportation Security Officer (TSO) positions at Albuquerque International Sunport (ABQ). TSA is accepting applications from individuals interested in a rewarding and meaningful career that offers opportunities for professional growth.

Entry-level part-time TSOs earn more than $20.60 per hour and receive full federal employee benefits. After two years of service, TSOs can earn $29.90 per hour.

To apply, applicants must be at least 18 years old and a U.S. citizen or U.S. national. Prior experience in security or law enforcement is not required to be considered for a TSO position.

As part of the hiring process, interested applicants will learn about the duties and responsibilities of a TSO, receive guidance on how to complete an application and, if eligible, take a computer-based test. TSA also requires all applicants to complete an interview, medical evaluation, federal drug screening and pre-hire background investigation.

Part-time TSOs receive full federal benefits, including annual and sick leave, a choice of federal health care plans, and a generous retirement plan. Veteran's preference is not required to join the agency.

TSOs may be eligible for shift differential pay for early morning and evening shifts, as well as work on Sundays and federal holidays. Overtime and/or extra time opportunities may also be available.

At ABQ, TSOs screen tens of thousands of airline travelers and their belongings each week, helping ensure passengers reach their destinations safely and securely. TSOs use multiple security technologies to carry out screening duties at the security checkpoint and in checked baggage operations.

Newly hired TSOs attend paid, standardized training alongside other recently hired TSOs from across the country. They also continue to receive on-the-job training throughout their TSA careers.
