Development of an Action Plan for the Golden Mile Community Begins
FREDERICK, Md. - Members of the public are invited to attend the kickoff meeting for the Frederick Engaging Neighborhoods, Organizations, Unions, Governments, and Households (ENOUGH) Initiative on Thursday, January 30 at 6:00 p.m. in the first-floor hearing room of Winchester Hall, 12 E. Church Street.
"The ENOUGH initiative will give us better tools to fight concentrated poverty while prioritizing the community's voice in creating systems for change," said Kelli Goetz, Director of the Frederick County Division of Family Services. "I encourage members of the Golden Mile community and interested organizations to attend the upcoming kickoff meeting to learn more about the initiative and see how they can get involved."
In 2024, Governor Wes Moore launched ENOUGH as a first-of-its-kind, placed-based strategy to address concentrated child poverty in Maryland. The program is part of a $20 million historic investment to support high-poverty communities as they develop solutions to deeply rooted challenges. Frederick County has one of these communities located along the Route 40 corridor, often referred to as "The Golden Mile."
The Frederick County ENOUGH Initiative is a $300,000 plan development grant from the State's ENOUGH program. Over the next year, we will gather input from local residents of the Golden Mile to ensure community voice informs a comprehensive plan to help reduce poverty by increasing investments to the area and improving economic mobility.
The upcoming kickoff meeting for the Frederick County ENOUGH Initiative will be attended by County Executive Jessica Fitzwater, the City of Frederick Mayor Michael O'Connor, ENOUGH Director Pickett Slater Harrington and ENOUGH Coordinator Joshua Freeman from the Governor's Office for Children, staff from the Frederick County Division of Family Services, and the thirteen local organizations that comprise the ENOUGH Advisory Council. This meeting will be an opportunity to learn more and ask questions about the effort.
Registration is encouraged but not mandatory. To register, or to learn more about this initiative, visit www.FrederickCountyMD.gov/ENOUGH. This meeting will be recorded for later viewing on FCG TV, cable channels 19 and 1072, and online at www.FrederickCountyMD.gov/FCGTV.
Anyone needing special accommodations for the upcoming meeting should contact the Americans with Disabilities Act Coordinator at [email protected], or by calling 301-600-1100, preferably at least three days before the meeting. To request a Spanish interpreter, please call 301-600-1208.
