Today, Representatives Tim Walberg (R-MI), Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL), and Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ) introduced the POW Priority Care Act. This bipartisan legislation would elevate former Prisoners of War (POWs) from Priority Group 3 to Priority Group 1 in the scale used by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to determine eligibility for health care benefits and services.
"Prisoners of War have endured the unthinkable to defend our freedoms and deserve access to timely and quality care," said Rep. Walberg. "As we commemorate POW/MIA Recognition Day, I am proud to partner with my colleagues on this bipartisan effort to provide the highest level of care at the VA to the men and women who have carried the weight of sacrifice with unyielding courage. We must keep our promises to our nation's heroes."
"America's former Prisoners of War endured unimaginable suffering in defense of our nation, and we owe them more than words of gratitude-we owe them the very best care our country can provide," said Rep. Krishnamoorthi. "By elevating POWs to the highest priority tier for VA health services, this bipartisan legislation reaffirms our commitment to honoring their sacrifice and ensuring they receive the timely, comprehensive care they deserve."
