Springstead Village in Cherry Hinton highly commended at national awards
Springstead Village in Cherry Hinton has been recognised for the quality, innovation and sustainability of the development at a prestigious national awards event.
The development was highly commended in the Best Development category at the Inside Housing Development Awards, which were announced on Tuesday 25 November.
The innovative all-electric development of up to 1,200 homes is being built by Bellway Latimer - a partnership between national homebuilder Bellway, and Latimer, the development arm of affordable homes provider Clarion Housing Group - on a 138-acre site that was once part of Cambridge Airport.
Project Director for the Bellway Latimer joint venture Ulrich Van Eck said: "Springstead Village is leading the way in how new homes should be built for the future, raising standards in sustainability, community engagement and access to nature and green open space. So, we are pleased to have been recognised for what we are achieving here.
"Community involvement has been an important part of the creation of Springstead Village, from the award-winning design code to the development of the public art and the local centre which is planned at the heart of the neighbourhood.
"I'd like to thank all members of the Springstead Village team for their commitment and hard work, and all that they have contributed to building this landmark project."
The Inside Housing Development Awards are held to celebrate outstanding residential developments with a particular focus on innovation and resilience.
Springstead Village was also a finalist at three further awards ceremonies which were held earlier in November. These were in the Outstanding Placemaking category at the Property Week ESG EDGE Awards and in the Development of the Year category at the British Homes Awards, as well as in the Best Design for Three Storeys or Fewer category at the Housebuilder Awards - where Bellway was the winner of the overall Large Housebuilder of the Year title.
All homes at Springstead Village are heated by air source heat pumps as part of the transition away from fossil fuels, while nature is incorporated into each aspect of the design, which includes a network of natural habitats, sustainable urban drainage and the planting of more than 1,500 trees.
When complete the neighbourhood will feature a local centre with shops and community facilities, and 27 acres of public open space and wildlife habitats. Two schools are also proposed.
