SUSSEX COUNTY MUA NORTHERN PERMANENT CAP

October 10th, 2024 NJWB

NJ I-Bank and NJDEP Helping to Improve New Jersey's Infrastructure, One Project at a Time

The Sussex County MUA recently closed on a $5,445,489 loan with the NJ Water Bank to This project includes the construction of mechanically stabilized earthen ("MSE") berms which offers several advantages in landfill expansion. With the use of geogrid reinforcement, the berms increase stability and load-bearing capacity allowing for steeper slopes and maximizing usable space. Infrastructure on site will be relocated and approximately 9.2 acres of a new final capping system will be constructed. The gas management system will be modified, and new drainage features installed. This project will allow for the continued proper management of Sussex County municipal solid waste, protecting both surface and ground waters by reducing and/or eliminating non-point sources of pollution.
