UNM’s spring commencement to be held May 16-17

The University of New Mexico will celebrate the spring class of 2025 in two separate commencement ceremonies on Friday, May 16 and Saturday, May 17 at University Arena (commonly known as The Pit).

The graduate ceremony for master's and doctoral students will be held at 6 p.m. on May 16, and the undergraduate ceremony will be at 9 a.m. on May 17.

As of May 1, a total of 3,123 from the Albuquerque campus are set to receive degrees. Across all campuses, 3,636 students are expected to receive UNM degrees or certificates this spring. An official degree count is determined following commencement.

The breakdown is as follows:

  • 2,172 bachelor's degrees
  • 487 master's degrees
  • 91 doctorates
  • 94 juris doctorates
  • 91 medical doctorates
  • 49 pharmacy doctorates
  • 127 graduate certificates
  • 12 education specialists.

UNM's branch campuses will also confer degrees. UNM Gallup will award 211 associate degrees and 59 certificates. UNM Los Alamos will award 20 associate degrees and one certificate. UNM Taos will award 58 associate degrees and 55 certificates, and UNM Valencia will award 55 associate degrees and 54 certificates.

Parking
Free parking is available for students and faculty on the north and west side of University Arena. It is requested that graduating students and guests park in the large parking lot (University Stadium) across University Boulevard. Commencement parking areas will be clearly marked.

Please note that for the May 16 ceremony, the Albuquerque Isotopes have a home game at 6:35 p.m., and there will be other sporting events and convocations going on in the vicinity May 16 and 17 that may impact parking and traffic. Convocations
In addition to the main ceremonies, several schools and colleges also hold convocation ceremonies for their graduates. A list of those can be found here.

Honorary degrees
As approved by the UNM faculty and Board of Regents, three individuals will receive honorary doctorates at the spring 2025 undergraduate commencement ceremony on May 17. The honorees are:

  • Nasir Ahmed, Honorary Doctor of Science
  • Everett Morgan Serafin, Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters
  • Roberta Eileen Velarde Serafin, Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters.

Livestream and program information
Official programs listing the ceremony order will be available at graduation.unm.edu prior to the events. The ceremony will also be livestreamed on UNM's social media, as well as at https://lobograd.unm.edu, where information about Inspiring Graduates will also be featured.
