(SACRAMENTO, CA) - Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry has named Maricarmen Reyes Larios as 2026 Woman of the Year for Assembly District 4, recognizing her dedication to education, community health, and public service in Sonoma Valley.
"Maricarmen's career has been all about uplifting families and strengthening the Sonoma Valley community," said Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry (D-Winters). "Her work connecting people with resources and opportunity has made a lasting impact across our region. Her work is a gift to us all."
A Sonoma Valley native and daughter of Mexican immigrants, Reyes Larios began her career tutoring migrant students through the California Mini-Corps' Migrant Education Program while earning a degree in Chicano and Latino Studies from Sonoma State University. She later worked as a substitute teacher and continues tutoring youth. Reyes Larios also served as the education programs coordinator and family advocate at La Luz Center. Her experience also includes Vineyard Workers Services, the Law Office of Immigration Attorney Tanya Brannan, and supporting farmworker students in earning high school equivalency as a tutor in Santa Rosa Junior College's High School Equivalency Program. Following the loss of her nephew in 2021, Reyes Larios became a youth mentor and suicide prevention advocate.
Today, she serves as outreach and event coordinator for the Sonoma Valley Community Health Center where she connects residents with vital benefits and leads community outreach and health events. She also serves on the board of the RISK Sonoma parent support network. "I believe deeply in bringing the entire community together, working across all backgrounds and cultures. I'm committed to fostering inclusion and belonging for everyone," said Reyes Larios. "I'm deeply honored by this recognition. This work has always been about helping my community and ensuring families have the support they need."
Since 1987, the California Legislative Women's Caucus honors women from across the state for their leadership and service to their communities. Reyes Larios is one of 120 women recognized this year, during Women's History Month, from across the state for their contributions.
