Interstate 80 Construction Update for Sierra Corridor

Placer/Caltrans is reminding motorists of various lane and ramp closures in multiple locations along Interstate 80 (I-80) as several projects continue in Placer and Nevada counties.

Motorists will experience delays with each project. If traveling across the entire corridor, the cumulative delay may reach up to two hours depending on traffic volumes. Caltrans encourages motorists to factor in additional travel times along the I-80 Sierra corridor and check QuickMap for real-time roadway information.

Here is the breakdown for next week in geographical order:

Eastbound I-80

• Blue Canyon Pavement Rehabilitation Project between Applegate and Weimar, various lane and ramp closures are scheduled from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday, September 28 through Thursday, October 1 and from 10 p.m. Friday, October 2 to 7 a.m. Saturday, October 3.
• Alta Pavement Improvement Project
  • Near Colfax, various lane closures are scheduled from 5 p.m. Thursday, October 1 to 6 a.m. Friday, October 2.
  • Between Colfax and Cape Horn, various lane closures are scheduled from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, September 30 and Thursday, October 1.
  • Between Secret Town and Gold Run, various ramp closures are scheduled from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Tuesday, September 29 and Wednesday, September 30.
  • Between Gold Run and Monte Vista/Dutch Flat, various lane closures are scheduled from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, September 28.
• Monte Vista Pavement Rehabilitation Project
  • Between Monte Vista/Dutch Flat and Drum Forebay, various lane closures are scheduled from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, September 28 through Thursday, October 1 and from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday, October 2.
  • Crystal Springs on- and off-ramps are closed until further notice. Motorists will detour eastbound to Baxter and return westbound on I-80 to Crystal Springs.
  • Drum Forebay on- and off-ramps are closed until further notice. Motorists will detour eastbound to the next available exit and return westbound on I-80 to Drum Forebay.
• Drum Forebay Drainage Restoration Project between Whitmore Maintenance Station and Blue Canyon, various lane closures are scheduled from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, September 28 through Wednesday, September 30.
• Blue Canyon Pavement Rehabilitation Project
  • Between the Whitmore Maintenance Station and Emigrant Gap, various lane closures are scheduled from 8 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, September 27 through Friday, October 2. Work is also scheduled from 10 p.m. Friday, October 2 to 7 a.m. Saturday, October 3.
  • Blue Canyon Road is scheduled to be closed from 8 p.m. Monday, September 28 to noon Friday, October 2.
• Drum Forebay Drainage Restoration Project between Rainbow and Troy, various lane closures are scheduled from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, September 28 through Friday, October 2.

Westbound I-80

• Rockfall/Slope Stabilization Project between Floriston and Hinton Road, various lane closures are scheduled from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, September 28 through Friday, October 2.
• Drum Forebay Drainage Restoration Project
  • Between Troy and Rainbow, various lane closures are scheduled from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, September 28 through Friday, October 2.
  • Between Big Bend and Cisco Grove, various lane closures are scheduled from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, September 29 through Thursday, October 1.
• Yuba Pass Separation Overhead Bridge Project westbound I-80 off-ramp at Yuba Gap is closed until further notice due to the crossover in place. Motorists will detour westbound to the Emigrant Gap exit and return eastbound on I-80 to Yuba Gap.
• Blue Canyon Pavement Rehabilitation Project between Emigrant Gap and the Whitmore Maintenance Station, various lane closures are scheduled from 9 p.m. Sunday, September 27 to 6 a.m. Monday, September 28 and from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday, September 28 through Thursday, October 1. Work is also scheduled from 8 p.m. Friday, October 2 to 7 a.m. Saturday, October 3.
• Monte Vista Pavement Rehabilitation Project between Drum Forebay and Monte Vista/Dutch Flat, various lane closures are scheduled from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, September 28 through Thursday, October 1 and from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, October 2.
• Alta Pavement Improvement Project
  • Between Monte Vista/Dutch Flat and Magra, various lane closures are scheduled from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, September 29.
  • Between Gold Run and Secret Town, various lane and ramp closures are scheduled from 5 p.m. Monday, September 28 to 7 a.m. Tuesday, September 29 and from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Tuesday, September 29 and Wednesday, September 30.
  • Between Magra and Colfax, various lane closures are scheduled from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, September 30 and Thursday, October 1.
• Blue Canyon Pavement Rehabilitation Project between Weimar and Applegate, various lane and ramp closures are scheduled from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday, September 28 through Thursday, October 1.

The extended lane closures will help minimize the duration of construction and improve worker safety. The schedule is subject to change or be delayed due to weather, availability of materials or other unexpected events.

Caltrans District 3 is responsible for maintaining and operating 4,385 lane miles in 11 Sacramento Valley and Northern Sierra counties. Caltrans reminds motorists to "Be Work Zone Alert" and slow in construction zones for the safety of travelers and crews performing these improvements.
