Chinese Ambassador to Tonga Liu Weimin Attends the Handover Ceremony for Medical Supplies

On April 20, 2026, Ambassador Liu Weimin and Hon. Sevenitini Toumoua, Acting Minister for Health of Tonga, attended the handover ceremony for China-aid medical supplies. The two sides signed the handover certificate.

Ambassador Liu said that, China attaches great importance to and is deeply concerned about the recent outbreak of dengue fever declared by Tonga. The successful delivery of these medical supplies will effectively supplement the critical medical equipment and consumables needed for clinical diagnosis and treatment in Tonga, helping improve the local capacity to treat common and frequently-occurring diseases, including responding to the dengue fever outbreak. This serves as another example of the strong partnership between China and Tonga. Cooperation in health is an important pillar of China-Tonga collaboration. China stands ready to further deepen practical cooperation with Tonga to build a solid safeguard for the health and well-being of the people in Tonga. 

Hon. Toumoua, on behalf of the Ministry of Health of Tonga, sincerely thanked the Chinese government for its timely and generous support and assistance. He said that it will effectively improve healthcare in local communities, which fully reflects the profound friendship between Tonga and China. He also looked forward to more fruitful outcomes in health cooperation between the two sides.
