The Second UN World Summit for Social Development will be organised on 4-6 2025 November in Doha, Qatar. The summit will strengthen the global commitment to social development. Minister of Social Security Sanni Grahn-Laasonen will represent Finland at the summit.
The political declaration to be adopted at the summit is based on the three core themes of social development: eradicating poverty, full and productive employment and decent work, and social inclusion. The declaration emphasises that social development and justice are indispensable for achieving and maintaining peace and security, and they cannot be attained without respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms.
At the summit Finland will stress the importance of a society that is based on human rights, gender equality and social justice. We will strengthen our commitment to inclusive sustainable development and the implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda as a whole. Finland stresses a multi-sectoral approach that recognises the mutually supportive effects of the economy, wellbeing and social development.
"Finland is strongly committed to human rights, including labour rights and non-discrimination. We will support the efforts to promote gender equality in every possible way. In particular, we will stress the sexual and reproductive health and rights," Grahn-Laasonen says.
Finland also emphasises the significant role of sustainable social structures and the civil society in promoting social development and the importance of developing national financing mechanisms.
During the summit Minister Grahn-Laasonen will participate in various side-events and meet colleagues from different countries.
