ReUSE, ReCYCLE, ReBLOOM: St. Albert’s Newest Public Art Project in Full Swing ›

If you have some recycling to do, now is the time to do it! The City of St. Albert is proud to announce its newest public artwork, ReBLOOM, by local artist David Thomas, located at the Mike Mitchell Recycling Depot at 7 Chevigny Street.

Thomas has been on site at the Recycling Depot for weeks, prepping, sketching and painting the mural. If Mother Nature cooperates, the painting will be wrapped up this month and on display for years to come.

Thomas is best known for his work on large-scale murals that layer movement, tension and connection into public spaces. He prides himself on making works that feel immersive and alive, bringing vitality and openness into the environments they inhabit. He has been hard at work bringing colour and nature to the otherwise mundane public space by painting a mural on the outside of the office seacan, as well as various barriers throughout the recycling site, adding visual interest and aligning with the concept of stewardship of the environment.

The City's Public Art program aims to directly influence the way people see and connect with each other and their community, highlighting what is unique about the places where people live, work and play. The Recycling Depot Mural is an exciting opportunity to celebrate community, creativity and care for the environment while frequenting a space we already regularly visit.

All artists selected for City Public Art projects are chosen by a selection committee. Members of the committee are picked on a project-by-project basis and reflect the artistic and cultural communities who live, work or play in proximity to the proposed artwork, have subject matter expertise and align with the call for artists criteria.
