Ogden to Honor Fallen Officer Nate Lyday with Field House Dedication And Community Night Out

Ogden City is honored to name the new field house inside the recently reopened Marshall N. White Community Center in memory of fallen officer, Nathan James Lyday. In 2020, Officer Lyday died protecting the community he loved, echoing the sacrifice of Detective Marshall White who was also killed in the line of duty in 1963.

A formal naming ceremony and ribbon cutting will be held on Thursday, August 14 at 4 p.m. inside the Marshall White Center, located at 222 28th Street in Ogden. The public is invited to attend.

The Nathan J. Lyday Field House will serve as a vibrant gathering space where children can play sports while learning the values of teamwork, perseverance, and leadership. It is a space dedicated to community connection and growth, ideals Officer Lyday embodied throughout his life and service.

"Officer Nathan Lyday grew up in this community, chose to serve it, and ultimately gave his life protecting it," said Mayor Ben Nadolski. "Naming this field house in his honor reflects who he was and what mattered to him-his love of soccer and community, and the importance of providing a place where young people can grow, connect, and carry forward the values that make Ogden strong."

The ceremony will begin with a presentation by the Ogden City Police Department Honor Guard, followed by remarks from Mayor Ben Nadolski, Ogden City Council Member Marcia White, Police Chief Jake Sube, and Officer Lyday's father and brother, Andrew and Cody Lyday. A ribbon cutting will conclude the event, officially opening the field house for public use.

Following the dedication, the celebration will continue with Ogden Police Department's annual Night Out Against Crime from 5 to 7 p.m. at the same location.

This free community event brings together law enforcement and local families to build safer, stronger neighborhoods. Residents will have the opportunity to connect with officers, explore public safety vehicles, and learn about community services and crime prevention programs.

For over two decades Night Out Against Crime has served as an opportunity for Ogden's officers to build trust, foster open communication and expand outreach to all residents, making the Marshall White Center the perfect backdrop.

"Night Out Against Crime is about building relationships and making our community safer together," says Chief Sube, "I'm excited to bring community partners, citizens, and officers together in such a meaningful way. This year's event is especially significant as we dedicate the Lyday Fieldhouse and celebrate the service of Officer Nate Lyday."

To highlight the importance of youth engagement, Ogden Police officers will face off against students from Ogden and Ben Lomond High Schools in an exciting 6v6 futsal match, fittingly held inside the newly named Lyday Field House.

Attendees can also enjoy free hot dogs from the Weber Fraternal Order of Police and drinks provided by Pepsi stationed in the Marshall White Center parking lot. We would also like to thank Ogden City Recreation and our sponsors, Target and Bank of Utah, for helping make this night possible.
