Bankruptcy Court Filings Increase

Monday, March 16, 2026

Recently reported bankruptcy statistics comparing calendar year 2024 to 2025 indicate that bankruptcy petition filings rose 11 percent nationwide, and 12 percent in South Carolina. Detailed statistics can be found here.

As the work of the Court increases without corresponding increases in resources, Judges Burris, Gasparini, and Davis invite the bar, public, trustees and other interested parties to provide comments and suggestions to the Court regarding local bankruptcy practices and procedures in our District with uniformity, efficiency, fairness, and excellent customer service as the goal. Please send any submissions to any member of the Advisory Committee on Local Rules, Practice, and Procedures (listed below) or to [email protected](link sends e-mail) on or before May 1, 2026.
