December 2, 2025 - Haworth is proud to sponsor Alcova's 3rd annual Miami installation, The Garden Game, reinforcing a design-forward strategy that embraces bold ideas, discovers new talent and pushes creative boundaries. In collaboration with Patricia Urquiola, the historic River Inn has been transformed into a vibrant space for gathering and play.
"Haworth continues to learn from platforms where art, design and culture converge," said Paul Nemschoff, Haworth Vice President of Global Strategy and Marketing. "When we toured Alcova last year, we were inspired. By partnering with Patricia to create this imaginative expression of an outdoor game board in Miami, we want visitors and everyone that works with us to be inspired too."
The River Inn oval courtyard now features a painted pink grid across its turf, inviting interaction and movement. This striking check matrix draws on the
language of American sports and graphic systems, transforming the courtyard into a playful collective space. It's not a game to win, but one to join.
Rietveld's Utrecht Outdoor armchair for Cassina and Cappellini's Thinking Man Lido chair set the scene. Each piece occupies its own square within the grid, remaining quiet, almost hieratic presences. Positions can change from a daytime conversation to evening cocktails. Meanwhile, Haworth's Cardigan Lounge chairs stay on the sidelines as cheerful supporters, reinforcing the sense of rhythm and community that defines the space.
"I imagined the installation to have this energy - rhythm, colour, people moving and coming close. The seats can shift and change, just like the encounters around them, nothing is fixed," said Urquiola.
Alcova brings together the people shaping today's design culture through pioneering work on new living environments, products, materials and technologies. Known for its groundbreaking exhibitions set in locations of architectural significance, Alcova has nine editions showcasing the work of over 500 designers, companies, galleries, schools and cultural institutions from six continents. This is Alcova's third US show at the Miami River Inn, among the city's oldest hotels. Originally built in 1908 as a Victorian boarding house for tourists and new residents, this small wood-frame cluster is one of the few remaining traces of Miami's original downtown.
The installation runs from December 2nd - 7th during Miami Art Week 2025.
