Serbia strongly committed to further strengthening relations with Canada

Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Đurić held talks today in Ottawa with Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand about improving bilateral cooperation, strengthening political dialogue and other issues of common interest.

Highlighting his satisfaction that the visit to Canada is taking place in the year when the two countries mark 85 years of diplomatic relations, and that this is the first visit by a Serbian Foreign Minister to Canada in ten years, Đurić said that Serbia is firmly committed to further strengthening relations with Canada and invited Minister Anand to visit Serbia.

The Serbian Foreign Minister particularly welcomed the re-establishment of the direct Belgrade-Toronto flight after 34 years, assessing that this will significantly contribute to better connecting citizens and business communities, as well as to the further development of economic cooperation between the two countries.

Speaking about economic relations, he pointed to significant, still underutilised potential in the field of economy and investment, and expressed his belief that the Serbian-Canadian Business Forum, which will be held tomorrow in Toronto, will give new impetus to the cooperation of businessmen and contribute to a more dynamic development of economic ties.

Đurić emphasised that Belgrade expects to strengthen cooperation with Canada in all areas of mutual interest, especially considering the large Serbian diaspora in that country.

The Serbian Foreign Minister also informed the Canadian Minister about the situation in Kosovo and Metohija, pointing out the extremely difficult position of the Serbian people, and reiterated that Belgrade is committed to dialogue with Priština and expressed the expectation that conditions will soon be created for the continuation of the dialogue at a high level.

The two officials also discussed Serbia's foreign policy priorities, the situation in the region, European integration, as well as current international issues.

Đurić also referred to the preparations for the Specialised Expo 2027 in Belgrade, expressing hope that Canada will participate in this important international event, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
