Santa Rosa - Motorists traveling on Highway 101 in Santa Rosa and Windsor may experience freeway lane closures and onramp closures for the next eight nights as Caltrans adds decorative railing to the Mendocino Avenue and Shiloh Avenue overcrossings, the last items of work on a bridge railing replacement project that began in April of 2025.

Caltrans will begin closing freeway onramps and lanes as early as 8:00 PM. As traffic lessens during the late night and early morning hours, Caltrans will close more lanes. One lane will always be open in each direction.

8:00 PM - 7:00 AM: 1,2 or 3 lanes closed on north- and southbound Hwy 101.

8:00 PM - 7:00 AM: Onramps to Hwy 101 closed at both overcrossings

Caltrans had completed replacing safety bridge railing on four Highway 101 overcrossings in Sonoma County in October 2025, but decorative railing for the Mendocino and Shiloh overcrossings was custom-ordered and not available until this month.

Caltrans needs closures to keep motorists safe as they use heavy machinery to lift the custom railings into place on top of the new concrete railings at the edges of the overpasses.
