(PEORIA, IL) On Monday, October 27, 2025, at approximately 12:14 a.m., Peoria Police responded to the 2900 block of N. University regarding a report of a male reportedly armed with a bat.
While en route, officers were alerted that the residence was on fire. Upon arrival, officers observed members of the Peoria Fire Department actively extinguishing the flames. All occupants had safely exited the residence, and no injuries were reported.
During the investigation, officers identified 31-year-old Jacob A. Cardenas as a suspect. Cardenas was located shortly thereafter in the 1200 block of W. Margaret and taken into custody without incident.
Cardenas was subsequently arrested for Aggravated Arson, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition without a FOID Card, and Criminal Damage to Property. He was transported to the Peoria County Jail.
