LOS ANGELES - Today, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass applauded the City Council's Public Safety Committee for voting to advance the nomination of LAFD Chief Jaime Mooreto serve as the next Fire Chief of the Los Angeles Fire Department. The Public Safety Committee members discussed Moore's proven experience as an LAFD firefighter, extensive record as an executive leader and his agenda of reform. His nomination will now be considered and voted on for approval by the full City Council this Friday.
"I want to thank Committee Chair John Lee and the Public Safety Committee for their thoughtful consideration of Jaime Moore," said Mayor Bass. "Chief Mooreis a proven and admired firefighter and executive who will urgently advance an agenda of reform to better prepare L.A. for major emergencies and upcoming world events and to improve responses to 911 calls citywide."
"Chief Moorebrings decades of experience, steady leadership, and a proven commitment to public safety at a pivotal time for the LAFD," said Councilmember John Lee, Chair of the City's Committee on Public Safety. "His dedication to keeping our city safe and ready for any challenge is exactly what Los Angeles needs, and I look forward to his appointment moving forward to the full City Council."
On October 24, 2025, Mayor Bass announced Mooreas her selection to lead the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Chief Mooreoutlined his goals for the LAFD:
Preparation for major disasters, including pre-deployment and staffing ahead of weather events and embracing a series of reforms.
Preparation for coming world events (FIFA World Cup 2026, 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games).
Improving morale and a culture within the department.
Ensuring the department is equipped with essential resources, staffing and support.
Increasing innovation, adoption of technology and use of data.
About Chief Jaime Moore
Chief Mooreis currently serving as the Deputy Chief of Operations Valley Bureau where he leads more than 1,000 firefighters and civilian personnel across 39 stations. He has been a member of the LAFD for over 30 years. Chief Mooreheld executive leadership and operations roles in wildland fires including the Hurst Fire, Kenneth Fire, Archer Fire and 2018 Getty Fire. He also held a leadership role in the department's Arson and Counter Terrorism Section where he investigated complex cases.
Chief Mooreprofessionalized FireStat LA, the department's data and performance based management system for citywide fire and emergency management services operations. In 2023, the Federal Emergency Management Agency recognized Chief Moorewith the US Fire Administration Outstanding Research Award.
Chief Mooreis a product of Los Angeles. Service is in Chief Moore's family - his son is an LAFD firefighter. If confirmed by the L.A. City Council, he will be the second permanent Latino Chief to lead the department and the first bilingual speaking Fire Chief.
