Shapiro Administration Announces Emergency Services Grant Awardees | Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

Harrisburg, PA - Today, the Office of the State Fire Commissioner announced grant awards for two separate grant programs: $447,251 in Emergency Training Center Capital Grants and $450,290 in Municipal Fire Department Capital Grants.

Grant programs fill a vital shortfall in funding to support first responders in communities across the commonwealth. We look forward to continuing to provide this critical money in the future.

- State Fire Commissioner Thomas Cook

The Emergency Training Center Capital Grant provides money to emergency services training centers, community colleges, county-owned facilities, municipal or fire department-owned facilities and nonprofit countywide associations to:

  • Establish or modernize buildings that house firefighting equipment, ambulances or rescue vehicles;
  • Acquire/renovate structures to house firefighting equipment, ambulances, or rescue vehicles, or construct/modernize facilities; and
  • Repair/purchase firefighting, ambulance, or rescue equipment to provide proper and adequate training.

The Municipal Fire Department Capital Grant provides money to eligible departments to:

  • Establish/modernize facilities that house firefighting equipment, ambulances, or rescue vehicles;
  • Acquire/renovate existing structures to house firefighting equipment, ambulances, or rescue vehicles; or constructing/modernizing facilities; and
  • Repair/purchase firefighting, ambulance, or rescue equipment to provide proper and adequate training.

Both grant programs were established by Act 104 of 2022, which provides a source of capital funding for municipal fire departments and emergency service training providers.
