Busan to Host Model European Union 2025

Applications Now Open for Students

The Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Korea announced today that the Model European Union (MEU) 2025 will take place in Busan on 14-15 November 2025, in partnership with Pukyong National University (PKNU).

The flagship youth diplomacy event will bring together undergraduate and graduate students from across Korea, offering them a unique opportunity to experience the European Union's decision-making process through dynamic simulations. A limited number of international students enrolled at Korean universities will also be accepted.

This year's theme, "Economic Security and the Future of European Competitiveness," will guide discussions and negotiations. Through training sessions and role-play exercises, participants will deepen their understanding of the EU's institutions and decision-making procedures, the geopolitics of economic security, and negotiation skills in a multi-polar world. The conference will help students strengthen key skills such as negotiation, debate, public speaking, leadership, conflict resolution, and creative problem-solving.

All participants will receive a Certificate of Participation signed by the EU Ambassador. An expert jury will select the top three participants, who will be invited to a fully funded two-week EU-related Summer School Programme in Europe. Transport and accommodation will be covered for those traveling from outside Busan, and participants will also gain access to the growing community of Model EU alumni. This year's event is generously supported by Seoyon E-hwa, the official corporate sponsor.

Applications are now open until 2 October 2025. Interested students should apply in English by submitting an updated CV and a two-minute self-introduction video explaining their motivation to participate. Applications can be submitted via the official social media channels (Facebook: MEU Korea | Instagram: @meuinkorea) or through the online application form.

The Model EU is a long-standing initiative supported by the European Union to engage young people worldwide in European integration, diplomacy, and international affairs. The most recent Model EU in Korea took place in May 2023, hosted by the EU Delegation and Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (HUFS). By simulating EU negotiations, the MEU fosters dialogue, critical thinking, and mutual understanding between Europe and Korea.
