Roadway worker dies of injuries following hit-and-run crash

Update 9/2/26: Suspect vehicle in fatal hit-and-run identified, seized by police

Police have identified the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run crash that killed Miguel Jimenez. Jimenez was working as a flagger in Gresham early morning on Monday, August 31 when he was struck by a vehicle travelling through the construction site. Using surveillance video, including footage captured by city-owned public safety cameras, investigators were able to identify the vehicle involved in the crash.

Early afternon on September 2, officers with the Vancouver Police Department located the vehicle at an apartment complex in Vancouver, Washington. Gresham police officers and criminalists responded to the scene in Vancouver. The vehicle has been seized as evidence.

The investigation is ongoing. No arrests have been made at this time.

9/1/26: Roadway worker dies of injuries following hit-and-run crash

A hit-and-run in Gresham is now a fatal crash investigation. Miguel Jimenez, age 50, was working as a flagger at a construction zone on NE Hogan Drive when he was struck by a passing vehicle just before 5:00 am Monday, August 31. Jimenez was critically injured and transported to a local hospital. Jimenez died of his injuries late that night.

The Vehicular Crimes Team responded to the scene and is leading the investigation. Officers determined a white sedan struck Jimenez. The driver fled without stopping to check on Jimenez or render aid.

"Miguel Jimenez was working to keep Gresham's streets safe for other road workers and the entire community. His death is a tragic reminder of the risks road workers face every day," said Gresham Police Chief Travis Gullberg. "The officers of the Gresham Police Department and members of the Vehicular Crimes Team will work tirelessly to ensure the driver is held responsible for their actions."
