BMI Remembers Brad Arnold of 3 Doors Down

BMI was saddened to learn of the passing of GRAMMY-nominated 3 Doors Down singer/songwriter and founding member, Brad Arnold, who died Saturday at the age of 47.

Formed in their native Escatawpa, Mississippi in 1995, 3 Doors Down honed a distinctive sound that seamlessly fused elements of the post-grunge, hard rock and alternative styles of the era, earning them widespread acclaim for singles like "Loser," "Be Like That," "When I'm Gone," "Here Without You," "Let Me Go," "It's Not My Time," "In The Dark," and their signature hit, "Kryptonite," among others.

The band's debut album from 2000, The Better Life, became the 18th biggest-selling album of that year, and quickly established Arnold as a formidable songwriter. By 2005, the band had already sold 12 million albums, and their music continued to resonate with both fans and charts throughout the band's career, with five of their six albums reaching the Top 10 of the Billboard 200. Over the course of Brad Arnold's tenure with 3 Doors Down, the band won 5 BMI Awards, 3 Billboard Music Awards, 1 American Music Award and a GRAMMY nomination for Best Rock Song for "Kryptonite" in 2000.
