Library 'friends' make their return with August 23rd sale

After a three-year absence, the Friends of the Taylor Community Library group has reformed and has planned a used book sale for Saturday, August 23.

The Friends sales gained a reputation of hosting "Downriver's best used book sales" when they were going strong prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. The sales raised thousands of dollars in funding toward the library's annual summer reading program, special events, space improvements, collections and other key expenses.

The Friends is a volunteer-run nonprofit organization. In recent months, a small group of volunteers have met with library staff to discuss options and voted to reform the organization and bring the sales back to the library, which is located at 12303 Pardee Road on the campus of Heritage Park. The August 23 sale is set for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Most items range in price from 50 cents to $1.

Meanwhile, the Friends are collecting donations of gently used hardcover and paperback books. Those interested in contributing to the sale should bring the books to the back door of the Taylor Community library, 12303 Pardee Road, during normal business hours. Textbooks, DVDs, CDs, records and CD audiobooks in excellent to good condition are also accepted.

Those interested in joining the Friends of the Library group can sign up at the library website, https://taylor.lib.mi.us/about/friends-of-the-library/ or ask a staff member for more details. The library can be reached by phone at (734) 287-4840. There is no charge to become a Friend.

Dates of future book sales will be announced on the library's calendar and on the library Facebook page. Some books are always available for purchase on wooden bookshelf just inside the library.
