Horseshoe Bend National Military Park Commemorates 212th Anniversary of the Battle of the Horseshoe.
DAVISTON, Ala. - On Saturday, March 28, Horseshoe Bend National Military Park invites the public to commemorate the 212th Anniversary of the Battle of the Horseshoe. This free, family-friendly event highlights the significance of the Battle of Horseshoe Bend in U.S. history. Leaders from the Muscogee Creek Nation will share stories from their ancestral lands to highlight cultural effects of the battle. The event will be from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., at the park visitor center.
The park will host a variety of special programs during the day:
Living history demonstrations will show Muscogee Creek and American life in 1814.
Children will have the opportunity to participate in a stickball game, create their own pottery, and complete the Junior Ranger booklet.
Refreshments will be available courtesy of the New Site Volunteer Fire Department.
At 6:30 p.m., a public gathering at Tour Stop #2 on the battlefield will take place to observe luminaries at sunset that commemorate all who lost their lives in the battle. Representatives of the Muscogee Creek Nation and park staff will speak at this event.
