DEATH OF MALAYSIAN CITIZEN IN THE REPUBLIC OF KOREA
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the Embassy of Malaysia in Seoul, confirms that a Malaysian citizen has passed away following an incident in the Republic of Korea on 26 July 2026.
The Ministry has been informed that the case is currently under investigation by the authorities of the Republic of Korea. In respect of the ongoing investigation and the privacy of the family, the Ministry will not be disclosing further personal details regarding the deceased or the circumstances of the incident at this stage.
The Embassy of Malaysia in Seoul has been in close contact with the next-of-kin of the deceased and the relevant local authorities. The Embassy is extending the necessary consular assistance to the family, including facilitating documentation, funeral arrangements and the repatriation of the remains to Malaysia.
The Ministry has also been informed that other Malaysian nationals are involved in the ongoing investigation. The Embassy will continue to seek verified information from the relevant authorities and will continue to extend the appropriate consular assistance to Malaysians involved, in accordance with the laws and regulations of the Republic of Korea and applicable international obligations.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs extends its heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased during this difficult time.
The Ministry reiterates its commitment to safeguarding the welfare and well-being of Malaysian citizens abroad. Malaysians residing in or travelling overseas are reminded to respect and comply with the laws and regulations of their host countries.
