Ghana rises to 8th strongest economy in Africa - Mahama.

President John Dramani Mahama has assured Ghanaians that the 24-hour economy initiative will yield transformative results following the passage of the 24-hour Economy Authority Bill.

Speaking on Friday at the groundbreaking ceremony for a 24-hour model market at Assin Bereku to kick off his two-day #ResettingGhana tour of the Central Region, the president said the new legislation provides the framework for businesses to access incentive packages designed to drive round-the-clock commercial activity.

Highlighting his administration's economic milestones, President Mahama revealed that Ghana has climbed from 11th to 8th among Africa's strongest economies, overtaking countries such as Côte d'Ivoire and Ethiopia in just 18 months.

"When we assumed office, the Cedi was in freefall, and our finances were in ruin," the President stated. "Through deliberate reforms to reset the economy, we have stabilised the currency and built a foundation that remained resilient even during the height of the US-Israel-Iran tensions."

He noted that these reforms provided a buffer for Ghana amid global volatility driven by US-Israel-Iran tensions.

The Assin Bereku project is part of a nationwide initiative to construct modern markets in all 261 districts. These hubs are designed to facilitate round-the-clock trade, providing farmers and traders with direct income sources. The model market will be a comprehensive commercial hub, featuring a police station, fire station, clinic, pharmacy, bank, cold stores, a daycare centre, restaurants, and a transport terminal.

Endorsing the initiative, the Paramount Chief of Assin Owirenkyi Traditional Area, Ehunabobrim Prah Agyensaim VI, compared the policy to those of global powers such as Japan and the US.

"The 24-hour economy is a game-changer," the Chief said. "Let us rally behind it as we do for the Black Stars, for it is the key to creating jobs for our teeming youth."
