FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE December 9, 2025 Chairwoman Amy Barela's statement on tonight's runoff election results: Albuquerque, NM - Tonight, we congratulate Mayor Tim Keller on his re-election as Mayor of Albuquerque. We wish him success as he continues to lead this great city, and we hope this campaign has served as a meaningful reminder of the needs, concerns, and aspirations of the people he has been entrusted to serve. Our hope is that the conversations raised throughout this election help guide Mayor Keller toward representing all citizens and businesses with a renewed commitment to building a safer, stronger, and healthier Albuquerque. We also want to extend our deepest gratitude and respect to Darren White, our Republican candidate for mayor, for standing up, speaking out, and fighting with his whole heart for change in Albuquerque. Darren spoke the hard truths that many have felt for years. He gave voice to the frustrations and hopes of countless residents who know our city can-and must-do better. His courage, honesty, and dedication will not be forgotten. While this election did not bring the result many hoped for, it reaffirmed something vital: real change does not come from one person-it comes from all of us. It is up to each New Mexican to engage, to educate voters, and to get out the vote. If we continue voting the same way, we will continue seeing the same results. Only when we take responsibility for our future, get involved, and lift our voices will we ever move our state toward being first in the things that truly matter. We look forward to the work ahead, and we remain committed to a future where Albuquerque can thrive, where our communities are safe and strong, and where every citizen feels heard. May this election be a moment of reflection for all leaders-including Mayor Keller-and an opportunity to recommit to serving the people with integrity, transparency, and purpose. Thank you to everyone who stood with us, fought beside us, and believed in the possibility of a better Albuquerque. The work continues. ### |
