New video series launched: Highlighting the vital role of women in ship recycling

The IMO's SENSREC project has officially launched a new three-part video series exploring the diverse roles women play within the ship recycling industry. This initiative aims to demonstrate how the sector can evolve to become more inclusive, equitable, and productive by utilizing the transferable skills of women in the maritime workforce.

By showcasing these real-world contributions, the project helps bring new audiences to the conversation regarding maritime sustainability and workforce diversity.

A Three-Part Journey into Inclusivity

The series is structured into three distinct segments, each focusing on a critical pillar of a modern maritime workplace:

  • Empowering Contribution: An exploration of the meaningful impact women make in ship recycling and the wider maritime sector.

  • Safety and Respect: A deep dive into the prevention of harassment and discrimination. This segment highlights why awareness and respect are essential for a safe workforce, particularly in traditionally male-dominated industries.

  • The Power of Diversity: The final part showcases the benefits of gender inclusivity, illustrating how diversity brings fresh perspectives, strengthens teamwork, and encourages innovation.

Increased inclusion of women is not just a matter of equity; it makes workplaces safer and more efficient. This series serves as a conversation starter, encouraging the industry to take concrete actions toward creating sustainable maritime workplaces.
