Nordic and Baltic foreign ministers condemn Russian disinformation campaign in joint statement

In the statement, the foreign ministers strongly condemned Russia's threats to use force against Latvia and other countries in the region and stressed that incidents involving drones entering NATO airspace are a direct consequence of Russia's illegal war of aggression against Ukraine. The Nordic and Baltic countries reaffirmed that they have not permitted their airspace or territory to be used for attacks against targets in Russia.

The statement notes that Russia is attempting to divert attention away from its war against Ukraine and intimidate NATO Allies, but that these efforts will fail and such actions must cease immediately.

The Nordic and Baltic foreign ministers reaffirmed their continued political, diplomatic, military and financial support for Ukraine in order to achieve a just and lasting peace in accordance with the principles of the UN Charter. The statement also underscored Ukraine's right to self-defence under Article 51 of the UN Charter. As NATO Allies, the countries reaffirmed their unity in defending Alliance territory and airspace and their commitment to collective defence in accordance with Article 5 of the NATO Treaty.

The statement was endorsed by the foreign ministers of Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Iceland.
