Sierra Club Statement on Senate Adoption of Trump Budget Reconciliation Framework

Washington, DC - Shortly after 2:00am ET this morning, Senate Republicans adopted a FY2025 Budget Resolution that sets the stage for them to make dangerous cuts to essential services, sell off our public lands, and give even more huge tax breaks to billionaires and the fossil fuel industry.

In response, Sierra Club Director of Beyond Fossil Fuels Policy Mahyar Sorour released the following statement:

"In the dead of night, Senate Republicans continued their campaign to abandon the American people in pursuit of nothing more than tax breaks for billionaires, increased profits for their polluter pals, and more corporate handouts and giveaways. This budget framework sets the table for drastic cuts that will endanger American lives, raise costs on working families, and even sell off the public lands that belong to us all. While Donald Trump and Congressional Republicans celebrate, American families now face a future of dirtier air and water, endangered essential services and environmental safeguards that we count on, and the largest attack on clean energy manufacturing which is powering the rebirth of communities across the country. The fight is far from finished, and the Sierra Club will continue to do everything in our power to oppose this cruelly misguided effort and stand up to polluters and the politicians doing their bidding. Our public lands and our future are not for sale."
