Applauds New Technology Prosperity Deal
U.S. SENATE - U.S. Senator Steve Daines today joined Newsmax's National Report to discuss President Trump's visit to the United Kingdom and react to the new Technology Prosperity Deal signed by President Trump and Prime Minister Starmer this morning.
Watch the full interview HERE.
Daines on how President Trump is strengthening the U.S.-U.K. partnership:
America is the most powerful nation in the world, and we have the most powerful leader in the world in President Trump. I'm so proud of what President Trump is doing, [and] Secretary Bessent. They're going on our allies' turf. The UK is one of our great allies. Strengthening these relationships is so important. They announced a $200 billion deal that involves AI, involves quantum computing, and nuclear energy. This is exactly what we need at this moment in time in our history and the world's history-bringing allies closer together in a world that's increasingly dangerous. Think about the threats of China, of Iran, of North Korea, Venezuela. It's the good guys that he's pulling together, and we need that. Think about China, they are graduating 10 times more engineers every year than we are here in the United States. I'm a chemical engineer by degree and very pro-STEM education. One way we can help raise our competitiveness to compete long-term with China is to bring our allies closer together. President Trump's doing exactly the right thing with this visit…
… This says a lot about President Trump. He didn't bring the Prime Minister to the United States for this meeting. He went onto their turf. That's the sign of a great leader. President Trump right now, as I travel the world, I'll be heading back overseas next week. I'm meeting with a lot of the Presidents and Prime Ministers around the world. Let me tell you something, the guy in the greatest demand in the world to have a meeting with or a phone call with is President Trump. He's doing a great job of being a wonderful ambassador for the United States, projecting our strength, but also strengthening relationships.
Daines on the legacy of Charlie Kirk:
This is a very personal issue for so many of us. I've known Charlie Kirk since he was a teenager. He would come to Montana in his early years. Some of his early financial supporters were actually in Montana. He had a tremendous influence on me personally, on our children and our entire family. But what's so troubling is the reaction to the assassination of Charlie Kirk, as it's taken the temperature up on the left in terms of their response. And it's heartbreaking when you think about this moment when Erika is grieving, now two children without a father, Charlie Kirk's parents. It's sickening to see the response, whether it's comedians on TV or others who have a view that's left of center. And I think it's a moment of time that we should be reflecting on the appropriate response in terms of this terrible tragedy that's hit our nation.
