From Beirut to Damascus: talks on region's security, stability, and future

In Beirut, talks centred on the complex political and security situation in Lebanon, especially the paramilitary operations of Hezbollah and the prospects for its disarmament. The interlocutors also discussed the future of international engagement in Lebanon in connection with the closing mandate of the UNIFIL peacekeeping mission, which includes the Polish Military Contingent. Another important item was the situation in southern Lebanon and the associated challenges to the region's security, and stability.

Polish Aid: substantial support for the people of Lebanon

Poland has been a longtime contributor to measures for Lebanon's security and growth. The value of its assistance rose from PLN 24.1 million in 2019-2020 to PLN 32.5 million in 2024-2025. While in Lebanon, Deputy Foreign Minister Zajączkowski toured the sites of some of the Polish Aid projects. Their scope includes civil protection and emergency response services, healthcare, humanitarian aid, and labour market activation. An exhibition organised by the Polish Embassy in Beirut, "Neighbours Under the Same Sky - Polish Aid in Lebanon in 2025", was officially launched on 26 August. It presents the results of Poland's engagement and cooperation with local partners.

Damascus: first political consultations in over 15 years

On the second leg of the visit, Deputy Minister Zajączkowski travelled to Damascus for the first political consultations with Syria in more than 15 years.

During the talks, the minister stressed that Poland is looking forward to Syria's stability, as it will lay the groundwork for the country's fast-paced recovery and its sustainable development. He reaffirmed that Poland is ready to resume cooperation with Syria in multiple areas, such as archaeology, and to support the country in its transformation through Polish Aid projects.
