In its meeting on 13 November, the Ministerial Committee on European Union Affairs outlined Finland's positions on the European Commission's proposal for the multiannual financial framework, which will serve as the Union's long-term budget for 2028-2034. The ministerial committee on also outlined Finland's positions three council meetings to be held next week.
The Ministerial Committee on EU Affairs continued its discussion on the proposal for the next multiannual financial framework issued by the Commission in the summer. As part of the discussion, the ministerial committee outlined Finland's positions for two proposed regulations included in the framework:
The ministerial committee will submit Union communications on the proposed regulations to Parliament, and they will become public once they have been discussed in a government session.
In addition, the ministerial committee outlined Finland's positions for three upcoming meetings:
The Agriculture and Fisheries Council will discuss food security and the targeting of support under the post-2027 Common Agricultural Policy, trade-related agricultural issues, and fishing opportunities in the Atlantic, North Sea, Mediterranean and Black Sea. At the meeting, Finland will present its proposal for simplifying the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund, which would promote the energy transition and bring about investments in the energy transition and safety of vessels while advancing the development of working conditions and facilitating generational change.
The General Affairs Council will discuss the Commission's proposal for the next multiannual financial framework, focusing on heading 1 (Economic, social and territorial cohesion, agriculture, fisheries and maritime prosperity and security). The GAC will also prepare for the December European Council, where discussions will focus on Ukraine, the Middle East, the next multiannual financial framework, EU enlargement and migration, as well as the geoeconomy and competitiveness.
The Foreign Affairs Council meeting will focus on Russia's war of aggression in Ukraine, the situation in the Middle East, and the Sahel and Sudan.
