(HARTFORD, CT) - Governor Ned Lamont today announced that his administration is making available $19.5 million in state funding to support a ninth round of grants under Connecticut's Nonprofit Grant Program.
Administered by the Connecticut Office of Policy and Management (OPM), this program provides state grants to nonprofit providers for the implementation of capital improvement upgrades that strengthen their ability to deliver essential health and human services to the state's residents. The grants help recipient organizations make necessary infrastructure upgrades while focusing their own limited resources on providing critical services to their clients.
Unlike funding dedicated to the delivery of direct services, the Nonprofit Grant Program provides resources specifically for capital investments that organizations may otherwise struggle to afford. These improvements can enhance workplace safety, modernize aging infrastructure, improve accessibility, reduce operating expenses, and strengthen the long-term sustainability of essential community services.
"Connecticut's nonprofit organizations are essential partners in serving our residents, particularly those who need our help the most," Governor Lamont said. "Every day, these organizations provide critical services to children, families, individuals with disabilities, and residents facing some of life's most difficult challenges. They do extraordinary work, often stretching every dollar to meet growing needs. But quality services also require safe, accessible, modern facilities where employees can work effectively and residents can receive the care and support they deserve. This $19.5 million state investment will help nonprofits make improvements that are too often out of reach, allowing them to focus more of their resources on what matters most-the people they serve."
"Nonprofit providers are a critical part of Connecticut's health and human services infrastructure, and we have a responsibility to ensure that infrastructure remains strong," OPM Secretary Joshua Wojcik said. "These organizations are often asked to do more with limited resources, leaving little room in their budgets for major facility improvements, technology upgrades, or investments that improve safety and accessibility. This program addresses those needs directly. By investing in the facilities and infrastructure that support service delivery, we are helping nonprofits operate more efficiently, protect their employees and clients, and make the most effective use of taxpayer dollars."
The application period for the ninth round of the Nonprofit Grant Program opens today, and applications are due by January 5, 2027. Grant awards are expected to be announced in spring 2027.
Examples of projects that are eligible for grants include:
"Whether it is a new classroom, a safer building, upgraded technology, or improvements that lower energy costs, these investments make a real difference," Governor Lamont said. "Our nonprofit partners are on the front lines of helping Connecticut residents every single day. We want them focusing their time and resources delivering services, not worrying about whether their buildings and equipment can keep up with the needs of the people who depend on them. This program is an investment in the organizations, employees, and communities that help make Connecticut stronger."
This ninth round will bring the total amount of funding the state has made available through the program since its establishment in 2013 to more than $185 million. The program's first eight rounds awarded approximately $166 million to support more than 700 capital improvement projects at nonprofit organizations statewide.
Nonprofit providers interested in applying can access application materials and instructions through the state's CTsource procurement portal and on the Nonprofit Grant Program's webpage.
