Kacey Musgraves Unveils Kinetic Mural in the City of Indio Ahead of New Album Release
INDIO, CA (April 15, 2026) - The City of Indio is proud to announce the unveiling of a striking new kinetic mural celebrating 8x Grammy Award-winning artist Kacey Musgraves and her highly anticipated upcoming sixth studio album, Middle of Nowhere, set for release on May 1, 2026.
Located at 78550 Varner Rd, Indio, CA 92203, the mural arrives just in time for Indio's iconic festival season, welcoming hundreds of thousands of visitors attending Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival and Stagecoach Country Music Festival at the Empire Polo Club. Festival goers and residents alike are invited to experience this unique public art installation as they travel through the city.
The mural, designed and executed by acclaimed visual artist and muralist Hervey Garcia, features a dynamic desert-inspired scene: a powerful bull kicking up dust alongside the album title Middle of Nowhere and Kacey Musgraves' signature. What sets this installation apart is its kinetic design, an innovative technique that brings the artwork to life. Composed of multiple sequential frames, the mural creates the illusion of motion when viewed at speed. As drivers pass by at approximately 50 miles per hour, the imagery animates in real time, transforming the static piece into a captivating, moving visual experience.
Visitors are encouraged to safely view the mural while driving along Varner Road and take part in this one-of-a-kind artistic experience during their time in Indio.
