In Texas, Trump Fails to Spin His Disastrous Economic and Energy Policies That Are Raising Costs for Working Families Arrow

Today, Donald Trump travelled to Texas to try to sell his deeply unpopular economic and energy policies, but Texans know just how terrible his failed policies have been for their pocketbooks.

In Trump's first year alone, tens of thousands of Texans have lost their jobs, families are shelling out thousands more just to afford the basics like groceries, electricity, and rent, and nearly half a million Texans are set to lose their health insurance.

A reminder: In Texas, Democrats have the momentum - from Taylor Rehmet's upset victory in Texas' 9th State Senate district's special election in January, to more than 100,000 more Texans voting in the Democratic primary than the Republican primary so far ahead of next week's elections.

In response, DNC Chair Ken Martin released the following statement:

"Donald Trump promised to lower costs on 'Day One,' but Texans know that was just another one of Trump's broken promises. In Texas, electricity, rent, and food prices have never been higher. As Donald Trump calls affordability a 'fake word' and 'hoax' and spends his time building gilded ballrooms, Texas families are seeing costs rise, health care get more expensive, and jobs disappear at one of the highest rates in the country. While Donald Trump and Texas Republicans continue to make life more expensive for hardworking families, Democrats in Texas and across the country won't stop fighting to lower costs and protect health care."

Donald Trump's policies have been a complete disaster for Texas

Trump's policies cost Texas families thousands of dollars.

  • The median Texas family will lose $1060 per year due to Trump's Big Ugly Bill and chaotic tariffs.
  • Meanwhile, the average Texas family has paid $1,210 more in 2025 due to Trump's inflation.
  • Trump's Big Ugly Bill also cuts SNAP benefits for 1,514,000 Texas families who rely on the program to afford groceries, which continue to cost more due to Trump's tariffs.

Trump's agenda is causing health care costs to skyrocket in Texas.

  • 480,000 Texans, including over 40,000 in Texas' 34th Congressional District, will lose their health care because of Trump's Big Ugly Bill.
  • Because Trump also refuses to extend enhanced ACA tax credits, premiums are doubling on average for over 3.7 million Texans this year.
  • Without enhanced ACA tax credits, premiums in Texas' 27th Congressional District could increase by 229% - or $1,018.

Texans are paying more for electricity than ever before, thanks to Trump's reckless energy policies.

  • A third of Texans spent 7% or more of their income on electricity last summer.
  • Electricity costs are expected to rise another 29% for Texans through 2030.
  • Trump's Big Ugly Bill killed tax credits for renewable energy projects that Texas businesses relied on while Texas grid relies more and more on renewable energy.
