WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Don Davis (NC-01), co-chair of the For Country Caucus, led the annual Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall Cleaning Event, alongside fellow co-chair Jake Ellzey (TX-06) and the nearly 26 bipartisan veteran lawmakers who gathered for the annual act of remembrance.

The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall Cleaning is an annual tradition held in collaboration between the For Country Caucus and With Honor, a veteran-led bipartisan organization dedicated to fighting against polarization in Congress. The bipartisan For Country Caucus was founded in 2019 as a way to provide its military veteran members the opportunity to work together across party lines to pass legislation regarding national security, veterans affairs, and national service.

Leading the gathering were the only three Vietnam veterans still serving in Congress. Rep. Jim Baird (IN-04), who lost his left arm in a 1971 convoy ambush, returned to the memorial alongside Rep. Mike Thompson (CA-04), who was wounded in combat with the Army's 173rd Airborne Brigade, and Rep. Jack Bergman (MI-01), a retired Marine Corps lieutenant general who flew CH-46 helicopters in Vietnam. Bergman has spent decades returning to the wall to honor those who did not come home.

"More than 58,000 names etched into the Vietnam Veterans Memorial represent Americans who gave everything in service to this country, including those from eastern North Carolina whose sacrifice continues to shape our communities today," said Congressman Davis. "Freedom has never been free, and communities across eastern North Carolina understand the cost of service and sacrifice deeply. As an Air Force veteran, moments like this carry special meaning because honoring those who never made it home is not only a responsibility, but a promise that their legacy and service to this nation will never be forgotten."
Other guests included UN Ambassador Michael Waltz, and United States Trade Representative Jamieson Greer
